ABOUT
Caroline Bentley, MA, LMFT is the founder of Addiction & Recovery Concepts. She is a licensed psychotherapist, trainer, and consultant in the field of Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders and Addictions. She has over 15 years experience working in a variety of settings including the government sector, as well as with clients in private practice, residential treatment, and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).
Caroline created Addiction & Recovery Concepts after recognizing the pervasive chasm between mental health and addiction treatment services. It is generally perceived as two completely separate and unrelated areas of mental health; not only in organizations, but also in the way clinicians conceptualize these two subjects. So often mental health professionals say "I can't work with this client, there's a substance use issue" and off the client goes with a referral. But, what if you began to think of mental health and substance-use disorders as existing on the same continuum, within the same person, at the same time? It truly isn't separate from the work you do in the mental health field and this shift in perspective is essential if you are to provide holistic and integrated care for your clients.
